The world vowed "never again" after the genocide in Rwanda and the atrocities in Srebrenica, Bosnia. Then came Darfur. Over the past four years, at least 200,000 people have been killed, 2.5 million driven from their homes, and mass rapes have been used as a weapon in a brutal campaign - supported by the Sudanese government - against civilians in Darfur. In On Our Watch, FRONTLINE asks why the United Nations and its members once again failed to stop the slaughter. The entire documentary can be watched on-line at the link and the website itself is a valuable resource for understanding why the world has failed to put an end to the conflict in Darfur.

What exactly is the US supposed to do? Our military is over stretched in Iraq and Afghanistan. Do we really want to get involved in another insurgency, in another Muslim country?
The purpose of the documentary is not to say that the United States should intervene militarily in Darfur, but to understand why the killing continues.
One of the things that the United States could do, short of direct intervention, would be to take the lead in instituting reforms in the UN that would make it better able to deal with such a crisis in the future.
And to make clear, the "our" in Our Watch is the world, not just the United States.
