Does acupuncture work?

Michael Shermer answers this question in his latest Skeptic column for Scientific American. A new study finds that "sham" acupuncture is as effective as authentic acupuncture, suggesting that the positive effects associated with acupuncture are largely placebo.

Which, of course, is absolutely no surprise, since the theory behind acupuncture is bald metaphysics.

You'd think that, but people are credulous. Polls here have indicated that 50% of the population believe in astrology. Friggin' astrology for crying out loud!
